I just read that Mitt Romney, in a likely effort to bash the idea of federal disaster aid in favor of "charity", compared the devastation suffered by the east coast during Hurricane Sandy to a football field full of trash. Entire towns in my home state of New Jersey are decimated - reduced to ruins and rubble; some towns are still underwater and others are half buried in countless tons of sand and debris. People lost their lives; two children riding in a car with their parents watched as their parents were crushed to death in the front seat of their vehicle by a falling tree. Hundreds of thousands of people are homeless or stranded; millions are without electricity, heat or provisions. Some (like my own parents in-law) still have no idea whether they have a house to go home to when they are finally allowed back onto the barrier islands that suffered so much destruction. Thousands of businesses have been destroyed by the hurricane as well. Mitt Romneyy, however, thinks nothing more of this death and destruction than to compare it to a football field full of paper and litter after a high school game?! Honestly, what the hell is wrong with him? This is not normal behavior. A normal human being has more of a capacity for empathy.
I'm really beside myself with rage right now.
