"There are 47% of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47% who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement - and the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what...these are people who pay no income tax ....And so my job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.
Mitt Romney recently attended a private gathering during which he made the statement quoted above. What is revealed by this statement is that the republican presidential candidate considers 47% of Americans to be "takers" because they are on some type of governmental assistance. Included in the 47% of people that he classified as irresponsible for receiving some type of help such as social security, Medicare, Medicaid, disability, veterans' benefits or food stamps are the elderly, disabled veterans and people who are mentally and physically disabled. Romney also stated that these 47% of Americans will vote for President Obama "no matter what", implying that he isn't concerned about trying to win their votes. However, it is readily apparent that he DOES want their votes; why else would he constantly flip flop his positions on the major issues (positions that he characterizes as "extremely conservative"), if not to attract their votes? If he were only concerned about the other 53% of Americans, there would be no need for him to constantly flip flop, reversing positions on every issue, including abortion, global warming, universal healthcare, gun control, tax cuts, etc. in an effort to appear as a moderate. Clearly, Mitt Romney is pandering to the very people that he considers to be moochers or freeloaders by compromising his own beliefs or principles. Doesn't that make him a moocher by proxy? It certainly makes him a political whore.
