On the campaign trail today, Mitt Romney told a rather odd story about how he met Glen Doherty, a Navy Seal who was killed in the attack in Libya. Romney claimed to have received an invitation to a Christmas party in either 2009 or 2010 (he cannot remember the year). He showed up at the wrong house and didn't even realize it until several hours later. Apparently, Mitt Romney, who wants to be in charge of our nation's security, got lost in his own neighborhood and didn't even realize the hosts weren't the correct people. Romney claimed that he had a long discussion with a man that he now realizes was one of the Navy Seals killed back in September. Despite claiming to have spoken to the young man in depth for hours, he never remembered his name until a person who had been at the same party contacted him to let him know that he'd met the young man. Whether this very strange story is true or not, Mitt Romney is politicizing Glen Doherty's death in an effort to gain votes. Didn't Romney criticize President Obama and accuse him of politicizing the Libya attack right after it happened? So why is he now doing the same? Has he no shame?
What do you think about this story? Do you think it is true or do you think that Romney is lying? Isn't it interesting that Romney gave us no verifiable facts, such as the date, the name of the neighbors whose party he crashed, or the name of the person who called him to tell him he'd met Glen Doherty?? Finally, do you think the timing - a month after the attack happened - is suspicious?
