When Mitt Romney said that 47% of Americans are freeloaders and moochers looking for handouts from the government, he touched a nerve with a lot of people who receive some sort of government assistance through no fault of their own. The people that earn his wrath include the elderly, who depend upon Medicare and social security (which they paid into their entire lives); people who lost their jobs through no fault of their own and need unemployment benefits until they find another one; vets, who receive government healthcare; disabled vets and disabled people in general; and parents of children with disabilities. Consider how many of the aforementioned groups are people with disabilities. If disabled people are to be considered freeloaders and moochers and denied benefits, what does that suggest about our society - or at least the sector of society that agrees with this assessment? It suggests that Mitt Romney and his supporters are hailing the policy of eugenics touted by Adolph Hitler in Nazi Germany, who did not think that disabled people deserved to live and would never have fed, clothed or housed them. Instead, he would have let them die in the streets or put them to death. That's not what I would want for my country. Ask yourself if it's what you really want.
