Recently, Republican Representative Michelle Bachmann was in the news for engaging in what was termed a "Muslim witchhunt". She sent letters to several government organizations, including the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security. In her letters, she demanding the investigation of Muslims on the basis that they have "infiltrated" the American government. Among those at whom she leveled charges of infiltration was Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton's deputy chief of staff. (Ms. Abedin is married to New York State Rep. Anthony Weiner.) Bachmann also expressed anger that the Justice Department engages in outreach efforts with the Muslim community, and was angered by investigations into bias crimes against certain ethnic groups, including Muslims and Sikhs.
Now that a gunman has shot and killed at least 6 people in a Sikh temple, does she feel any remorse for her hateful rhetoric in suggesting that investigations into this type of crime should not receive any priority? Will she release a statement denouncing this latest crime in support of the victims or will she remain silent?
