Ellen DeGeneres confronted the ‘One Million Moms’ boycott of her partnership with J.C. Penney on her daytime talk show yesterday with trademark humor quipping, “normally I don’t like to pay attention to my haters, but this time I’d like to talk about it because my haters are my motivators.” ...

"... And here are the values that I stand for. I stand for honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you want to be treated and helping those in need. To me those are traditional values, that’s what I stand for."

Ellen is an amazing human being. Good for her.

These so called moms are part of the same right wing machine who are bashing Obama and others for class warfare, excuse me, isn't what they're doing a form of class warfare.

As George Carlin would say the same people who are against abortion are the same people who are against homosexuals, who has less abortions than homosexuals, here we have an entire group of people guaranteed never to have an abortion, you'd think they'd make natural allies.

So, here's a question. Are there really One Million Mom's or do they just call themselves One Million Mom's as opposed to, say, Fifteen Fundamentalist Mom's and a Few Others? I could proclaim an organization entitled One Million Goobers but in reality the only Goober in attendance would be one.

Folks sure seem to spend an inordinate amount of time worrying about how other folks live their lives.

You gotta point there. A somewhat frightening point as well....

Maybe these Mom's need to have a buddy system, or pen pal system, with some gay folks. My Mama was virulently anti gay with Biblical reasoning until a gay couple moved across the street from her. Once she got to know them she certainly altered her tune. For the better.

We are all just human beans with buttocks groveling our way through this stress monkey modern life in the best manner possible. Seems like cutting some slack for all the other groveling buttocks out there is more in line with the teaching of Jesus than spending time and energy railing against difference.

I wonder why they didn't belly ache at Ellen being the Cover girl make up spokesman ? or some of these things .........

Both on and off screen, DeGeneres' humanitarian efforts take center stage. This past year, DeGeneres brought awareness to the anti-bullying issue by creating a PSA titled "Be Kind." DeGeneres and the show partnered with the Trevor Project and Pacer Center to raise money and awareness for the cause. In addition, DeGeneres showed her support for her hometown of New Orleans, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Her efforts have resulted in "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" raising over 10 million dollars to improve the lives of New Orleans residents.

DeGeneres continues to share her love of animals and has brought attention to the Gentle Barn, an organization that rescues and rehabilitates animals. Overall, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" has raised over 50 million dollars and brought attention to various causes, including global warming and breast cancer awareness. Additionally, DeGeneres served as spokesperson for General Mills' breast cancer awareness initiative, Pink for the Cure, and hosted special episodes of her show to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

There is only one way to stop this. A court needs to make a ruling and attach this provision:

In order to satisfy the "Equal Protection Clause" of the Fourteenth Amendment, we hereby rule that LBGT individuals are a protected class, and until the provision is implemented, the individuals of such class shall be exempt from taxation in any form until they achieve representative status.

One Million Moms Haters. These haters lost the interracial marriage argument, so now they are on to the same sex marriage issue, they always have to find someone to hate.

Loving v. Virginia, 388 U.S. (1967), was a landmark civil rights case in which the United States Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision, declared Virginia's anti-miscegenation statute, the "Racial Integrity Act of 1924", unconstitutional, thereby overturning Pace v. Alabama (1883) and ending all race-based legal restrictions on marriage in the United States.

But really, they have to hate Ellen DeGeneres? That's like hating new born puppies, how bizarre is that?

I don't know how she does it. Ellen Degeneres has a bubbly, upbeat personality that makes her irresistible. I suspect that One Million Moms will discover that it has tangled with a good-natured tiger who is bound to win. She has the moral high ground on this non-issue. What makes OMM think they can make blanket statements about where a person will or will not shop? Does anyone remember the outrage over Disneyworld? Has it put Disney out of business?

Joy is an off-shoot of Love and a fruit of the Spirit in the New Testament.

And if these Christian people believe that God IS Love.

They must be blind not to see that someone with such an excess of joy, that it overflows and helps make other people joyful too must at least have SOME of God in them.

Now the flip-side. What joy have these Million Moms brought to anyone?

sunshine,

That's just the problem - the OMM and AFA use the bible as a weapon. Their religion is a shield to protect their ignorance. They hold that ignorance in higher regard than the tome they purport to defend. They defend the indefensible.

I suppose that's the biggest difference between them and Ellen. Ellen can, does, and will do, everything in the open. She has nothing to hide, is not afraid of her identity, and it's why she is popular.

I wonder how long the brainfarting session at OMM was, to come up with that pathetic boycott? Behind closed doors, out of public view?

No, they wanted to give the right-wing social engineers a win of some kind. FAIL.

To be treated the same as everyone who isn't gay?

But apparently this really scares the religious conservatives because just allowing gay people to be gay means that the gay people are going to hell.

How this affects the Christians I don't know, maybe they go to hell too just for living in the same place as gays?

A vibrator and bedazzler in EVERY HOME!

No...on a serious note. I have actually spoken to some virulent anti-gay people on this, most of whom are from some denomination of the Abrahamic religions.

It has to do with the fear that gays and lesbians are dismantling the patriarchal system "Traditional Values,", "Family Values" and there are religious and social elements to this system that depend on a very black and white definition of gender and the roles each must have in service to the "Empire".

The enforcement of these roles is done in defiance of what gender ACTUALLY is, which is- diverse and complex- just the way Nature likes it.

It is done in defiance of the insignificance of gender as far as intelligence, ambition, ability and the inalienable right of every human being to be free and pursue their happiness regardless of whether they are male, female or a combination of both.

It is done with a superior attitude to any culture that approaches it differently by forcibly conquering and converting them to the Abrahamic/Judeo-Christian approach, even if what they had before was working just fine for them.

So you will often hear anti-gay people draw reference to paganism, like Newt Ginrich once did, as other non-Judeo/Christian cultures had a very different approach to gender because they had Gods AND Goddesses and even Hermaprhodites in their spiritual tradition.

Of course, there is also a fear of the "gay agenda" leading to "softness" as far as American dominance in the world goes. It is left-over from the fear of the hippie-movement in the 60s with its feminine men sporting long hair and flowers and speaking of communal sharing and caring. Fear of communism is also related to this.

There can also be a racist element to anti-gay positions. The white race needs to keep breeding to prevent America from becoming too beige or worse brown or yellow. So homosexuals are seen as wasting reproductive opportunity. Race hate groups are usually anti-gay.

The biblical and theological stance against homosexuality is actually very surface and weak once you highlight the scriptural cherry picking and hypocrisy and mis-prioritization. What you actually discover is that the basis for the dislike of gays and lesbians is deeply personal or based on deep fears of the aforementioned things. The bible is used selectively to justify the feeling.

I think sunshine girl-685508 nailed it with one word "Fear".

Fear is the primary motivator for resentment towards any group. Unfortunately, its been this way forever.

I just wish these "Ethics Groups" would get out of our bedrooms already.

Peace, Love, Tolerence, Respect, and of course Hugs

Ellen stated it beautifully.

"... And here are the values that I stand for. I stand for honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you want to be treated and helping those in need. To me those are traditional values, that’s what I stand for."

Pretty radical, isn't it?

An interesting little factoid as well.

In the 50s and 60s underground gay bars were often located near city/neighborhood limits of black and white towns. Long before Jim Crow ended, gay watering holes were often the only racially integrated social scenes.

I am not saying all gay people have no racial prejudices. However, it still is one of the most racially diverse, welcoming communities with a very high percentage of interracial relationships. So I am sure that fear of the "rainbow" also drives a lot of the animosity by homophobes of all racial backrounds.

A white man letting a black man @!$%# him must be the ultimate sacrilage for a racist white man.

A black man letting a white man @!$%# him must be the ultimate betrayal for a racist black man....and so on.

But fear of what exactly? That someone out there might be sleeping with a member of the same sex? Why would anyone be afraid of something so absurd?

It's not like gay people are infiltrating the churches to convert other people to being gay.

The actual sex is not the half of it.

It's the mere suggestion or indication that a man can find self-actualization and fulfillment in any way other than provider and Christian head of household to doting wife and plentiful children, which he shall indoctrinate in the preferred religous/economic/political dogma of the State.

It's the mere suggestion or indication that a woman can find self-actualization and fulfillment in any other way than to be a submissive wife and mother who has as many children as the State tells her to have to service its military and economic needs.

Now, nothing is wrong per-say with being a devoted heterosexual husband and head of household. Nothing is wrong with being a wife and mother. IF THAT IS WHAT YOU ACTIVELY CHOOSE AFTER SELF-EXPLORATION AND EQUAL ACCESS/AWARENESS OF ALL THE OPPORTUNTIES THAT EXIST.

The problem is that for many, for a very long time, there was no choice. This was just the default thing, the only thing, your duty, your obligation and it helped build America. Lots of consumers. Lots of soldiers. Lots of workers.

Now here comes the "rebellious" lesbian, leading her own life, pursuing her dreams, bravely being as smart as she wants to be, owning her own wealth, pursuing sexual satisfaction without shame and is "her own woman", and if she is pretty, a triple threat.

So now the heterosexual housewife who never stopped to consider "Is this what I really wanted?" is potentially at risk of being "led astray" by the Sapphic temptress and spoiling the whole paradigm.

In fact, it has already happened. Women have gotten so bold-faced as to want to choose their husbands based on their own attraction, demand sexual satisfaction, demand a life outside the home, demand a divorce if they are ill-treated or betrayed.

Same goes for the rigid male gender roles. What on earth happens when men are in touch with their "feminine side". First it's witty poems and window treatments, next thing you know we'll be talking world peace and fair trade.

Sunshine Girl comes up with an answer! I've asked that same question before on the Vine, and never received anything with that amount of thought and analysis behind it...

Of course, I've also been asking the anti-gay crowd to explain themselves. Guess introspection isn't very common in that sector...

We know she's destroying family values because she is not June Cleaver or Harriett Nelson.

Go Ellen! I hope Penny's and the people stand behind her.

What horrible people. Instead of Christians being the voice of love and peace, a place where the weary and down trodden can find a home... they have become the symbol for hate, judgment and a slap in the face when one needs understanding. Shame, shame on them.

They don't even know what they believe or are supposed to honor.

Romans 14:10-12 Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.

Galatians 5:14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
